Here's a complete list of all patches that have been applied to maradns
v1.2.12 in the debian 4.0r3(etch) that release I'm running:

maradns (1.2.12.04-1etch2) stable-security; urgency=high

  * Fix remote DoS

maradns (1.2.12.03-1) unstable; urgency=low

  * New upstream release with many new doc tweaks. Though most of the
changes
    are with the webpages which I have chosen not to distribute as you can
    read them all rather online at http://maradns.org/
  * The diffs in the Makefiles are due to upstream's configure script
  * Added bind2csv2.py as an example from upstream's tools/
    There is a lot of little scripts in tools/ which can probably join this

I do not have my "play" maradns server at hand at the moment to try this
on, but I think the problem might be related to your records all ending in
" ~". Tilde handling was only introduced in maradns v1.3 and I'm not sure
how the 1.2 parser likes it. Looking at the zone files you posted, I think
you can safely leave off the ~ at the end of each line. Can you try and
see it that makes a difference?
